An oblique and nonlinear audio narrative based on the authors’ experience in Okayama Japan. A continuation of the last installment of this progressively incomprehensible and self-referential phase of Dustland, with globally harvested field recordings and piano/organ accompaniment by Nick Eymann, Kathleen Daisy Hubbard, and Liz Eymann.
Our protagonist points a cassette recorder at the month of August. Sounds are captured and assembled into a grainy tape collage. Friends, loved ones, and casual acquaintances are annoyed in like kind. “Nick, stop recording,” becomes a constantly reiterated phrase. But our protagonist must carry on. He is leaving Arizona.
Featuring piano accompaniment by Nick Eymann Steve walks the Arizona landscape like a giant. This is a man larger than life, in constant and busy activity, involving himself in so many projects and business ventures that you wonder how he has the time to sleep. His powerful charisma, booming voice and wild gesticulations make him extremely difficult to ignore, and impossible to forget. Steve has an overabundance of passion for just about everything he does, and rest assured you will find that out if you should have the fortune of meeting him.
Peronally, I met Steve for the first time, standing out side a soon-to-be demolished church in downtown phoenix. He had his trusty camera pointed at the dilapidated steeple, and a look of sheer intent in his eyes. Steve is an avid photographer; he tells me its his true calling. Later that day, he would buy me an ice tea and regale me with stories of his life. After my first acquaintance Steve, I knew I had experienced the rare gift of meeting a true individual.
